The play is divided into two acts.
The play is set in the studio/living room area of Miriam’s house. Two doors lead off to a kitchen and a bedroom. Another door opens on to the street. The stage directions note that everything is tinged with a slight air of unreality.
Young Victor’s appearances and disappearances are marked by lighting changes.
