The play takes place over an unspecified period of time – probably a number of weeks or months – and is divided up into 20 scenes.
The play takes place in a number of locations, namely, the women’s houses, a taxi, the radio station, a classroom, a performance space, an art gallery, the plastic surgery clinic and the funeral home. The characters instantaneously move from one place to another, so that the locations are more likely to be implied in performance, rather than be recreated by elaborate scenery.
A number of props and staging elements are either suggested or specified in the play text:
- In scene 1 Cristina 1 blows up two balloons to look like breasts.
- In scene 2 Cristina 1 reads from a leaflet.
- In scene 4 Cristina 2 quotes from a book in the library.
- In scenes 5 and 9 each Cristina talks on a telephone.
- In scene 8 the women are supposed to be sitting round a table with dinner guests.
- In scene 12 Cristina 1 watches a television, flicking through the channels with a remote control.
- In scene 14 Cristina 1 sits at her work desk and wears a saucepan on her head.
- In scene 15 Cristina 2 is wearing a seaweed face pack.
- In scene 17 Cristina 3’s chest is bandaged up after her operation.
