The play is divided into two scenes.
Thebas Motel is set in a dirty motel room. The atmosphere is unusually humid for December and the characters are dishevelled, scantily-clad and sweaty. The room is lit by various different light sources in the course of the play, including a neon ‘Thebas Motel’ sign, police spotlights and lightning. At the end of the play the police fire into the room, shattering the window and the neon sign.
The room contains a phone and a suitcase filled with money. Marino has a gun. He also takes a number of Polaroid photographs. A radio makes announcements about the bank robbery and about the weather.
As the play reaches its conclusion, a fierce storm can be seen and heard, as we see flashes of lightning and hear thunder cracks.
