Scene

The play is divided into three acts. Each act takes place in Agustin’s home:

• act 1 has nine scenes
• act 2 has five scenes
• act 3 has five scenes

Staging

As is typical of Unamuno’s theatre, Soledad (Solitude) does not contain a lot of staging information. The most important things that remain on stage throughout the play are the photograph of the dead son of Soledad and Agustin, as well as his little toy horse. In acts 1 and 2 the action takes place in one room in the house that contains Agustin’s writing desk and Sofia’s armchair.

In act 3 the stage is divided into two rooms – to the right, a little reception room, to the left, the small bedroom of Agustin and Soledad. (less)
