The play takes place over one long act.

Staging

The play is set in the Professor’s office and in the Doctor’s examining room.

The Professor’s office is that of a typical academic, strewn with books and papers. There is a hamster cage.

The Doctor uses a Dictaphone to record his observations about Harriet. Near the end of the play he hooks her up to a brainwave machine.

Harriet looks like a hunchbacked elderly woman. Her shell is covered by a shawl or by blankets at various points of the play. (less)
