Scene

The play takes place over an undefined period of time. The light in the room changes, although we do not know whether it is day or night-time.

Staging

The action is set ‘in any closed-in space between two doors’ (Mayorga 2009: 29). This space has a water bowl, and in the course of the play the Human Being throws the dogs meat and a rubber toy to chew on. The dogs are taken in and out of the space as required, led on a leash by the Human Being. At the start of the play John-John listens to music through headphones. At other times, the dogs hear bursts of unidentified music and often hum what they hear. The tests are accompanied by the tick-tock of the Human Being’s stopwatch.

Cast information

In the 2008 CDN production the Human Being was female. In the 2011 production in Cantabria the three dogs were played by women. The characters names were changed to Dina, Jane-Jane and Emma.
