Scene

The play is divided into two acts. The action takes place over a number of months in 1938.

Staging

The play is set in an old house which becomes progressively more damaged by air raids. One of the soldiers, Sopla, has a motorbike. At the end of the play Trini drives off in Mariano’s truck. Throughout, the sound of gunfire and bombs can be heard. In act 2 Juan’s bedroom is completely destroyed by a bomb. Later in this act, as characters shelter in the ruins of the house, we see flashes of explosions and bursts of flames. (less)
