The play is divided into 42 scenes.
Floating in Space is a very imaginative piece that jumps about in time and space and features email and video communication, as well as live action. M.I.K.E. and F.R.A.N.K. live in an anti-gravity environment. The 2010 production by the El Astillero theatre company featured the astronauts moving in slow motion to mimic the experience of living in orbit. The play does not provide many stage directions, leaving it up to directors to decide how to present it.
The Beatles’ song Across the Universe is heard at a number of points during the play. In scene 24, M.I.K.E. and his wife dance to I Love Paris by Cole Porter.
