This is a one-act play.

Staging

For this play, the stage must be divided into two distinct spaces. Mercedes lives in a 1980s’ household, containing a lot of dressmaking equipment. Clara lives in a present-day apartment. Most of the time, the two women are unaware of one another as they go about their daily lives. Sometimes, however, they do seem to connect through complementary behaviour or gestures.

Clara uses a Dictaphone to practise how to tell her boyfriend Raúl that she is pregnant. At times she listens back to her recorded words.

In the course of the play, Clara uses a notice board or a blackboard to write down a series of different ages. She later posts newspaper articles about domestic violence on this board. (less)

Music

At a number of points during the play, Clara and Mercedes sing the song Bésame mucho. Near the end, a radio presenter plays a version of this song, performed by TheBeatles.
