Biography

Maxi Rodríguez was born in 1965 in Mieres, Asturias. He is widely involved in Spanish cultural life, not only as a playwright, but also as a director, theatre producer and actor, and as a scriptwriter for television and film. He has written for the hugely popular Spanish sitcom 7 Vidas (7 Lives) and is also an award-winning columnist for the newspaper La Nueva España. Rodríguez was a founding member of the theatre companies Cestón de Máscaras and Producciones Toaletta. This latter group has staged many of Rodríguez’s plays, often directed by the playwright himself. He has won several theatre awards, including the prestigious Born Prize in 1987 and the Marqués de Bradomín Prize in 1989.
