Further information

This 2011 version is an adapted translation of the play. Some conversations have been added or slightly altered. There are a number of fantastical scenes inserted, such as the Prologue in which Yerma sees a vision of Victor and a young child. This is an extended version of the beginning of the play, in which a Shepherd passes by with a young boy. Similarly, at the end of act 2 scene 1, as the washer women rhythmically wash their clothes, Yerma appears at the riverbank. She plunges into the river and finally emerges, gasping for air.
