Scene

The play is divided into two parts. Part One takes place over one night. Part Two takes place five years later. Each part is divided into acts, with the following subtitles:

First Part

Act 1: Licentiousness and Scandal

Act 2: Skill

Act 3: Profanation

Act 4: The Devil at the Gates of Heaven

Second Part

Act 1: The Spirit of Doña Inés

Act 2: The Statue of Don Gonzalo

Act 3: God’s Mercy and the Apotheosis of Love.

Staging

The play is set in various areas in and around Seville, including the Convent, the Laurel Tavern and the Pantheon cemetery near Don Juan's house.
